I think even Redhat don't try to turn that off (there is evidence to 
suggest that running with it off dramatically decreases lifetime of the 
drive).

For *testing* purposes, I don't see any issue with leaving it enabled - 
obviously when we discuss HW that they might use for real, then we 
should push RAID cards with a battery backed cache (or with write 
barrier support if that works properly in Linux now).
