Hi Josh again,
How exactly  can I  specify different option when compiling Bizgres (having installed PERL in my home directory , for
example) ?

The full PostgreSQL source code is in the source directory under pgsql/.

I don't believe any flag is necessary, just compile on the 64-bit machine 
using a 64-bit compiler.
