Just got back from EuroOSCON and speaking on PostgreSQL in the
Enterprise. Well attended talks with good feedback for Bruce Momjian,
Magnus Hagander and myself.
Bizgres has certainly gained attention with a number of people having
tried it out and said good things.
Contrast that with David Axmark's presentation where he says that MySQL
are developing merge joins and hash joins for the next release (5.1) -
bearing in mind that 5.0 is yet to be released. I am truly amazed that
anybody could even think of building a Data Warehouse without such
essentials. Every single feature mentioned as being under development
for the next release of MySQL was already present in PostgreSQL/Bizgres.
On that alone we're a year ahead then, but hidden gems like the
PostgreSQL optimizer in fact make that much much more. It also clearly
shows who's setting the agenda.
Few comments about not actually being able to find the 0.8 release,
which I must admit I was unable to locate when I last looked. Not sure
why that would be...
Bizgres MPP was discussed at the PostgreSQL BOF. Sounds like the story
about the performance and PostgreSQL compatibility hasn't travelled as
far within the community as the Bizgres concept itself.
Best Regards, Simon Riggs
