Yep - the configurator should be able to make those changes (as root or
sudo).  We'll be able to do it easily for the binaries using the installer.

BTW - both of your source tarball problems were caused by the same thing -
the CVS release tag was embedded in the source tarball, which forced
distribution build behavior - fixed in the current downloadable tarball,
thanks for reporting it!
